VENUE Birdwatching sites in or near Rutland

DATE & FREQUENCY 1st Tuesday of the month and usually a random extra day later in the month. See bottom of this page for the next few meetings.

DESCRIPTION Birdwatching 2 is a group formed in early 2019 to accommodate further members with a birdwatching interest. We are all amateurs with different levels of expertise in birdwatching, but we are keen to share and learn more.

We meet at birdwatching sites in or near Rutland, once or maybe twice per month, at 9.30am for approximately 2 hours. A reminder of the site selected for each meeting is advised to members a few days before the meeting. The outing detail is provided, such as where to park and meet. It covers what conditions are likely to be encountered too.

Binoculars (or telescopic cameras) and outdoor footwear and clothing are essential requirements and most meetings involve some country walking. This means that routes may include uneven, rough, wet or muddy ground, slopes, steps or stiles. Only a few sites have sheltered hides and some sites have no seats or toilet facilities at all.

Outings involve walking at a steady pace for up to 2.5 miles with periods standing still while watching wildlife.

You are advised to bring water to drink and consider head protection on hot sunny days. On colder days please wrap up well as the hides can be cold and windy.

For further information, please contact Helen Jezequel via the U3A messaging facility

Details of previous meetings through 2019 to current date can be seen by clicking on one of the links below. Further photos are contained on some of these pages.

Bird photos on the webpage are mainly thanks to Graeme's expertise with his camera.
